SparkScribe Terms of Service
Effective date: October 17, 2026 · Operator: HRstudios LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ·

1. Agreement
SparkScribe is a product operated by HRstudios LLC. By creating an account or using SparkScribe you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you use SparkScribe for an organisation, you confirm you may accept these Terms on its behalf.
Age. You must be at least 13 years old. If you are 13 to 17, you may use SparkScribe only with your parent's or guardian's permission, and a paid plan (Flash, Bolt or Thunder) must be purchased by a parent, guardian or another adult, who agrees to these Terms for that purchase.
2. The service
SparkScribe turns audio and video files into transcripts in your browser (your audio isn't uploaded) and, if you choose, creates summaries, notes, study material and answers from the transcript text using AI. Saving transcripts and using AI features require an account. Features may change; we'll give notice of significant changes.
Transcription is English-only for now. Other languages may be transcribed poorly or not at all.
Fair-use limits. AI features have usage limits per account (higher on paid plans) and a service-wide daily cap that protect the service's costs. They are set well above normal study and work use. When a limit is reached, the app tells you when you can continue. We may adjust limits; your plan's transcription allowance below is not affected by them. Every plan gets the same transcription accuracy and the same quality of AI answers.
3. Plans and subscriptions
Plans (US dollars). Transcription time is per month on every plan, including on yearly billing:
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing | Transcription each month | Also includes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | – | 30 minutes | Summaries, notes, Ask, flashcards, quizzes, study guides, Create tools and exports |
| Flash | $5.99 a month ($1.00 for the first month, see below) | $59 a year | 3 hours | Everything in Free |
| Bolt | $9.99 a month | $99 a year | 9 hours | Everything in Flash, plus Focused Review and new practice questions |
| Thunder | $14.99 a month | $149 a year | 20 hours | Everything in Bolt, plus asking across recordings and combined study guides |
Where we're required to collect sales tax or a similar tax, it is calculated at checkout based on your billing address and added to the price; you'll see the total before you pay.
- Flash introductory offer: if you have never had a paid SparkScribe plan, your first month of Flash on monthly billing costs $1.00. From your second month, Flash renews at $5.99 a month until you cancel. The offer doesn't apply to yearly billing. The offer is available once per person and account; it ends when the first month ends, and it isn't available on a plan change from another paid plan. We may end the offer for new customers at any time; that doesn't change the price of a first month you've already paid for.
- What the allowance counts: the length of recordings you transcribe and save. AI features, exports and opening saved recordings don't use it. Free resets each calendar month (UTC). Paid plans reset every billing month: on monthly billing at each renewal; on yearly billing every month on the same day of the month your subscription started (or the month's last day, when that month is shorter). Unused time doesn't carry over.
- Payment and renewal: payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your full card details. Monthly plans renew automatically every month, and yearly plans every year, on the same date until you cancel. You'll see the price and renewal terms before you pay. Before each yearly renewal we email you a reminder with the renewal date, the price and how to cancel.
- Switching between monthly and yearly billing is a plan change, made in Manage Billing: moving to yearly (or to a higher plan) takes effect at once and the prorated difference is charged then; moving to a cheaper price takes effect at the next renewal.
- Upgrades (to a plan with more time or features) take effect immediately; the prorated difference for the rest of the current period is charged at once. If you upgrade during your $1 Flash month, you're credited for the unused part of what you actually paid and charged the new plan's price for the rest of the period.
- Downgrades (to a plan with less time or features) take effect at the end of the current period; until then you keep the plan you paid for, and the lower price applies from your next renewal.
- Cancellation: at any time in Plan & usage → Manage Billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for (the month, or for yearly billing the year), with its monthly transcription time each month until then; then you return to Free and no further payments are taken. Nothing in your library is deleted.
- When a plan ends or changes: your recordings, transcripts, notes, quizzes, review progress and practice questions stay in your account, and so do the answers and study guides you made across recordings (you can still open and delete them). Creating new ones with a feature your plan no longer includes needs a plan that includes it.
- Failed payments: if a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it several times over about two weeks and you'll be asked to update your card; you keep your plan during that time. If payment still can't be collected, the subscription ends and you return to Free. A first payment that fails gives no paid plan and uses no introductory offer.
- Refunds: payments are non-refundable, including for partly used periods, except: duplicate or mistaken charges, charges for a period in which a service failure on our side prevented you from using SparkScribe, and where the law requires a refund. Duplicate charges and charges made after an account was deleted are refunded automatically; for anything else, email contact.hrstudios@gmail.com. Canceling stops future payments, and your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. This includes yearly plans: canceling a yearly plan stops its next renewal, you keep the plan until the end of the year you paid for, and the unused months aren't refunded, except where the law requires a refund.
- Price changes: we'll email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your renewal, and give any longer notice or ask for any consent the law requires; you can cancel before the new price applies.
- Deleting your account cancels any subscription immediately, so you are never charged again. The unused part of the current period is not refunded.
4. Your account
Keep your password secure and your email address current. You're responsible for activity in your account. You can delete your account at any time in Settings; deletion is immediate and permanent.
5. Your content
You keep all rights to your recordings, transcripts and the material created from them ("your content"). You give us permission to store, process and transmit your content only as needed to provide the service to you, including sending transcript text to our AI provider when you use AI features. We don't use your content to train AI models.
You're responsible for your content and for having the right to record, upload and transcribe it, including consent from the people recorded where the law, your school or your workplace requires it.
Answers and guides across recordings (Thunder) are saved to your account with the questions you asked and links to the recordings they come from, so you can open them on any device. They're part of your content: you can delete them at any time, and they're deleted with your account.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use SparkScribe to: break the law or others' rights (including privacy and recording-consent laws); record people secretly where that's unlawful; process content you aren't allowed to; attempt to access other accounts or our systems without permission; overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the service or get around plan allowances or usage limits (for example with many accounts or automated requests); or use AI features to create harmful, deceptive or illegal material. Anthropic's usage policy (https://www.anthropic.com/legal/aup) also applies to AI features.
7. AI output and transcription accuracy
AI-generated summaries, notes, quizzes, review material, drafts and answers (including answers and study guides across several recordings) can be incomplete or wrong, and transcription can mishear words, names or speakers. Check important information against the recording before relying on it, especially for legal, medical, financial or academic decisions.
8. Availability and changes
We provide SparkScribe "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service, and AI features may be paused at busy times. Export anything you can't afford to lose. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or put the service or other users at risk; where reasonable, we'll tell you why first. You may stop using SparkScribe and delete your account at any time.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of data you didn't export, and our total liability for any claim relating to SparkScribe is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that can't be excluded or limited by law, or your statutory consumer rights; where the law doesn't allow a limitation, it applies only to the extent the law allows.
11. Governing law and disputes
Please contact us first; most concerns can be resolved quickly. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Michigan, unless your local consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
12. Changes to these Terms
We'll give at least 14 days' notice of material changes in the app or by email. Continuing to use SparkScribe after they take effect means you accept them.
